We know that all of the previous videos gave you so much information. All of the rules and requirements are a little bit vague on whether or not each individual is exempt or not.

We encourage you to check out the CalFresh Work and Community Engagement Rules: Pre-Screening Tool at surveymonkey.com/r/CalFreshWork.

[Slide shows the screenshot of the website]

This tool only contains 4 questions that require a yes or no answer. We took it for a spin and it gave us a vague answer suggesting that the individual go to their local county office to verify whether they are exempt or not.

If you need support or assistance with this process, please do not hesitate to reach out to DCARA to have one of our staff members work with you.

One more thing… If you receive benefits similar to CalFresh benefits, such as Food Stamps or SNAP, your state encourages you to check with your local office to see what the rules are.

CalFresh General Information:

Generally, you are expected to take a suitable job if offered, and not voluntarily quit a job. Keep a minimum of 30 hours a week. If you work below 30 hours each you need a good reason. This is the general CalFresh work requirements, also known as work registration in California.

You can be excused from work registration if you are:

• Younger than age 16, or age 60 or older.

• Caring for a dependent child under age 6 (they do not have to live with you).

• Caring for a person with a disability (they do not have to live with you).

• Earning at least $217.50 a week before taxes or working at least 30 hours a week.

• Getting or applying for unemployment benefits.

• Getting or applying for disability benefits.

• Disabled.

• Going to school, college, or a training program at least half-time.

• Meeting the work rules for another program, like CalWORKs.

• In a drug or alcohol abuse treatment program.

However, there is a new requirement called ABAWD Work Requirement. We’ll discuss that in our next video.
