Job scams are happening more frequently, so it’s important to stay aware of the tactics scammers use. Here are four common red flags to watch for:
1. Unknown Caller – You receive a phone call or text message offering a job you never applied for.
2. Hurry – The person pressures you to act quickly or makes you feel rushed.
3. Personal Information Requests – They demand your personal info (Social Security Number, credit card number or bank account number) first before a formal job offer is even made.
4. Payment Requests – They offer you a job but require payment upfront. This may include requests through cash apps, gift cards, or sharing gift card codes.
When in doubt, you should trust your guts. If something feels off, it usually is. Do not respond to suspicious messages—ignore them and report the activity.
