Hello everyone! Today, DCARA shares important information about changes to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This update is important for many immigrants, including members of the Deaf community. Starting October 20, 2025, USCIS introduced a new citizenship test.
[A blue banner with white text appears in the middle of the screen, “Also known as USCIS-Naturalization test”]
Applicants who file their application before October 20, 2025 may still take the old test, depending on their cases. In 2026, many applicants will be taking this new test. The new test is more difficult.
Before, USCIS asked 10 civics questions and you needed 6 correct answers to pass. Now, USCIS asks 20 civics questions and you must answer 12 correctly to pass. The number of study questions has also increased. Before, there were 100 questions. Now, there are 128 questions.
Applicants must still be able to speak, read, and write English. Deaf applicants can request accommodations such as:
• ASL interpreters
• Written communication
Some people may qualify for an easier version of the test. For example:
• Applicant 65 years or older
• With 20 years of green card status
People with disabilities can also request accommodations and support.
Because of these changes, it is important to start preparing early. DCARA is here to support the Deaf and immigrant communities. Thank you for watching.
