Back in the early 1960s, a small group of Deaf leaders came together to support their community. They started out as a volunteer-run agency, offering interpreting referrals, reading support for kids, supporting Deaf foster parents, and creating social activities for Deaf seniors.

In 1962, they made it official and became a nonprofit under the name East Bay Counseling and Referral Agency, Inc. (EBCRAD), which later became DCARA.

Now, over 60 years later, we’re still here, continuing to serve and give back to our Deaf community. We invite you to be part of what comes next. Support DCARA this Giving Tuesday and help us keep this mission going strong.

A principios de la década de 1960, un pequeño grupo de líderes sordos se unió para apoyar a su comunidad. Empezaron como una agencia dirigida por voluntarios, ofreciendo referencias a intérpretes, apoyo a la lectura para niños, apoyo a familias de acogida sordas y creando actividades sociales para personas mayores sordas.

En 1962, lo hicieron oficial y se convirtieron en una organización sin fines de lucro bajo el nombre de East Bay Counseling and Referral Agency, Inc. (EBCRAD), que luego se convirtió en DCARA.
