Hey everyone! Welcome to DCARA community information vlog. I hope you’re doing well! Today, I want to share important news about a new law in Fremont, California. This law affects people who sleep outside, camp in public property, or store personal belongings on public spaces like sidewalks, parks, etc. Let’s break it down.
The City of Fremont law now states:
- Sleep or camp overnight on public property
- Leave personal belongings in public areas
are illegal.
This means if someone sleeps in a tent, in a car overnight, or keeps their belongings in public spaces, they could get a warning, a fine, or possibly be forced to move.
Keep in mind, Fremont isn’t alone—other Bay Area cities have already passed similar laws. Cities like San Jose, Concord, and San Francisco.
Why is this happening? The city says the goal is to keep public spaces clean and safe.

But we know that many people don’t have stable housing or need a place to rest. Obstacles arise when they don’t have another choice.
What can we do? Know Your Rights – Police or city workers must explain the law and give a warning first before taking action. Find Resources – If you or someone you know needs shelter, food, or support, reach out to DCARA. Be Careful – Avoid fines ($1,000).
We all deserve dignity, support, and safety. If you need help or have questions, reach out to DCARA! We will help you. Let’s stay informed and support each other. Take care, and see you next time!
