[A slide with yellow-orange background displays text in blue that reads “Can Federal Workers Apply for UI in California?”]
Can Federal workers in California apply for UI? The answer is YES.
Anytime an employer causes you to lose a job not by fault of your own, being laid-off, resign or pushed into early retirement, you may qualify for UI.
One exception – a federal worker who is being put on administrative leave with pay, they generally would not be eligible for unemployment benefits because technically they are still “working” and being paid.
To apply UI, go online to myEDD website to register and then apply UI Online Link below at edd.ca.gov/en/myedd/
If you want to discuss this further with an employment specialist, contact HQ front desk at 510-343-6670 or email info@dcara.org.
