[Announcer] Welcome to this video about the City of Fremont’s Affordable Rental Housing Program.
We all know that living in the Bay Area is expensive.
Housing costs remain high, and it’s become difficult for many families to afford buying or renting a home.
The City of Fremont realizes that the need for affordable housing in our community is greater than ever.
We’re focusing on this need and working towards creating housing in Fremont that families can afford.
Our Housing Division manages the City’s Affordable Housing Program.
One of the program components focuses on providing rental housing for families with low income levels.
Fremont is home to many affordable housing properties, including existing properties and brand new properties that are under construction or in the pipeline.
A primary requirement for qualifying for affordable housing is meeting income requirements based on the area median income, or AMI, and the number of people living in your household.
Here’s an example showing how income requirements work.
For 2024, a four person household cannot earn more than $93,420 a year before taxes to be eligible for units at 60% of the area median income or AMI.
These income limits are subject to change.
For more information, visit city.fremont.gov/incomerequirements.
Every affordable housing property has a mix of rental units.
For example, one property may have 10 units designated for 30% of the AMI and another 10 units designated for 60% of the AMI.
To check if any of Fremont’s existing properties have rental units available or open wait lists, you must contact each property individually by phone or email.
A list of these properties and their contact information can be found at http://city.fremont.gov/affordablehousingmap.
Several brand new affordable housing units are under construction or in the pipeline for Fremont.
