Happy Holidays! At DCARA, we want to acknowledge and recognize other holiday celebrations & traditions to increase cultural awareness for our community.

Today we want to recognize and celebrate the Winter Solstice which is on December 21.

The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. Winter Solstice celebrates the light of awareness and the rebirth of the sun.

[Video description: A short video displays a few slides with different backgrounds.

Slide 1: A background of winter hills with trees and a sun rising display “December 21, 2022” in yellow, DCARA logo at the bottom, and white text: “Today we want to recognize and celebrate the Winter Solstice which is on December 21. The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. Winter Solstice celebrates the light of awareness and the rebirth of the sun.”

Slide 2: A dark navy background displays graphics of candles and a Yule Candle Altar, DCARA logo at the bottom, and white text: “A few ways to celebrate Winter Solstice

  • Wake up early on the day of winter solstice to watch the sunrise-close your eyes and feel the sun’s warmth on your face.
  • Create a Yule Candle Altar- surround that altar with items that bring you joy and peace, and surround it with candles. Light the candles as a symbol of the sun’s ability to give us both life and light.”

Slide 3: A dark navy background displays snowflakes, DCARA logo, and a white text: “Share different ways YOU celebrate the Winter Solstice!”]

(ESPAÑOL)

¡Felices vacaciones!
