Today is May 17, 2021.
California health officials on Monday said the state won’t follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s relaxed masked guidance but will stick to the June 15 target date set by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
California Public Health officials want to emphasize that regardless of vaccination status, masks must be worn in indoor settings, including on public transportation, and in our schools in California. The reason for June 15th is to allow more time for more Californians to get fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear a mask outdoors unless they are attending crowded gatherings.
Many people are confused because of CDC’s recommendations that people who are fully vaccinated don’t have to wear masks in certain locations. Businesses such as Costco, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart have dropped masks but they must follow California’s state guidelines until after June 15th. We will keep you updated June 15th. Continue to mask up.
