NEWS FLASH: We are sharing updates related to COVID-19 mask mandates and state watch list.

UPDATE #1: More and more cities and counties are adding mask enforcement on people who do not wear masks/facial coverings while out in public due to a rising number of positive COVID-19 cases. Here are local cities/counties within our DCARA service area, including which have been recently added:

Contra Costa County (new)
Fremont (city) (new)
Marin County
Napa County

The following cities and counties have authorized officers and health officials to give citations related to COVID-19 to all residents, visitors and businesses who are not wearing facial coverings/masks at all times when out in public or serving the public, effective immediately:

More cities and counties are expected to start giving citations for not following the mandate. Check your local city or county website for updates.

In some cities/counties, you could face fines from $25 to $100 or even $500. For businesses, the fines are more steep as they could be fined $200 to $5,000 if not following the requirements.

UPDATE #2: Many public health officials are concerned about the increased community spread of infection since few more counties are now added onto the state’s watch list. As of Wednesday evening, there are 38 counties. Santa Mateo County, which is within our agency’s jurisdiction, just was added to the watch list.

Wear a mask. Wash hands. Social distance. Be wise.
