The governor of California recently announced a transition to Stage 3 and forty-seven (47) out of 58 counties in California have started easing on the stay-at-home order. Some counties are still in Stage 2.5, slowly resuming businesses and services. However, some counties are delaying reopening, depending on their local public health guidelines based on the latest numbers of cases and death. Some businesses like barbershops, hair salons, in-store retail shopping, and houses of worship in most counties are allowed to reopen only if they follow the new additional modifications set by the state of California.
Here are some examples of what modifications look like for barbershops and hair salons:
– Contacting customers before appointments to ensure they aren’t exhibiting symptoms
– Appointments are scheduled separately so that there are no customers waiting rooms and no walk-in appointments
– Both stylists/workers and customers must wear face coverings at all times during appointments
– No magazines, coffee maker or water stations will be available
– Any kind of grooming that touches face like eyebrow threading, shaving, waxing, facials, and eyelash services are NOT included (off-limits)
– In some salons, stylists will check customers’ temperatures at door before allowing them to enter
More personal services such as home pool services, car washes, mobile dog grooming businesses, and hospitality services have already re-opened.
Nail salons are not included in the re-opening modifications due to being the first known case of exposed spread at the beginning of this COVID-19 pandemic. Nail salons will open much later.
Places of worship (i.e. churches, temples, mosques, etc.) can reopen effective immediately, depending on local county guidelines, as long as the attendance is limited to 25% of a building’s capacity – or up to 100 attendees, whichever is lower and follow social distancing rules.
In some counties such as Bay Area counties are NOT ready to start re-opening many businesses like barbershops, hair salons, shopping malls, dine-in restaurants, offices and more. The only counties not allowed to move into Stage 2.5 are:
Alameda
Contra Costa
Marin
San Francisco
San Mateo
Santa Clara
Santa Cruz
Keep in mind that while these new changes are in place, the need to maintain physical distancing, face coverings, and continuing to follow cleaning of surfaces, use of hand sanitizers, and hand washing is still required.
We encourage you to check with certain businesses and services before you head out of the door. Stay safe.
