Lately the Senate (current legislative branch in Congress) in Washington D.C. are debating for a second round Federal Pandemic Relief Fund – especially on Unemployment Insurance (UI). Debating if they should maintain the $600 federal enhancement on UI like before which expired at the end of July or they should reduce the federal enhancement amount lower to $200 enhancement amount instead. Still debating on this.
Some argue that people are not ready to return to work and going through hardships (due to spiking pandemic therefore they need assistance) to maintain their budget in paying their bills and fearing being evicted from home. Others feel people should return to work rather than being discouraged to return to work by comfortable UI enhancement amount.
Senate debate should end by Friday before their one month recess. Some people feel that considering we are still in a pandemic, the Senate should resolve this first before their recess.
In regards to another issue, the economic stimulus check appears to be unchanged like before. $1,200 for individuals (under $75,000) and $2,400 for married couples (under $150,000) and $500 per child. But again this may be subjected to change at the last minute (we don’t know yet).
We in Employment Services are continuing to keep eyes on this issue and keep you informed. For more information, questions or concerns, contact DCARA HQ.
